Jerome (Sully) Mazour Obituary

Jerome (Sully) Adolph Mazour, 91, Lawrence, Nebraska passed away on Monday, November 4, 2019 at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.  Rosary will be Friday, November, 8, 2019, 7:00 p.m. and Mass will be Saturday, November 9, 2019, 10:00 a.m. both at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lawrence, Nebraska with Father Corey Harrison officiating.  Burial with Military Rites by Kent Kailey Post #45, Lawrence, Nebraska and Nebraska National Guard Honor’s Team will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Lawrence, Nebraska.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or the Lawrence Community Center building fund.  Visitation will be Friday, November 8, 2019 from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at the Lawrence Visitation Chapel, Lawrence, Nebraska.  Private condolences may be sent to the family at www.mertenbutlermortuary.com.  Merten-Butler Mortuary, Blue Hill, Nebraska is in charge of arrangements.

 

Jerome was born on December 30, 1927 to Adolph and Josephine (Kotinek) Mazour in Nuckolls County.  He served in the United States Army from August 2, 1951 to April 9, 1953.  On June 2, 1953 he married Rita K. Ostdiek at St. Stephen Catholic Church, Lawrence, Nebraska.  Jerome had done custom haying for over 40 years, owned the Circle Bar in Lawrence for 10 years, raised cattle and had worked for Huss Platte Valley Livestock as a Field Man and consigned cattle up until just a few days before he died.  Jerome was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Kent Kailey Post #45 Lawrence, Nebraska, V.F.W. Post #10045, Deweese, Nebraska, Lawrence Community Club, Sacred Heart Catholic Church and had been on the Lawrence Volunteer Fire Department for 47 years.  He loved cattle, horses, playing cards, and Sunday morning polka music. Emphasis on Faith, Family, Friends, and Fun were the principles he lived by.

 

Jerome is survived by his wife of 66 years; Rita, Lawrence, Nebraska, two daughters; Linda (Ed) Ostdiek, Lawrence, Nebraska, Lori (Phil) Dechow, Gretna, Nebraska, two sons; Larry (Donna) Mazour, Lawrence, Nebraska, Lonnie (Sandy) Mazour, Trumbull, Nebraska, one sister-in-law; Evelyn Ostdiek, Hastings, Nebraska, (14) grandchildren; Amy (Scott) Roth, Michael (Jenee) Ostdiek, Lisa (Brett) Peterson, Christa Ostdiek, Shane Ostdiek, Elizabeth Mazour, James Mazour, Katie Mazour, Brandi Mazour, Landon Mazour, Shelby Dechow, Robert Jerome (RJ) Dechow, Ashton Mazour and Tate Mazour, (5) great grandchildren; Kynlee, Easton and Raegan Peterson, Avery Roth and Charlie Schroeder.  Jerome is preceded in death by his parents, one brother and sister-in-law; Everett (Verena) Mazour, four sisters and brothers-in-law; Helen (Anton) Drudik, Libby (Rich) Nejezchleb, Mary Alice (George) Drudik and Dorothy (Ray) Hraban.
