Mabel A. (Lipovsky) Schmidt

Former Blue Hill resident Mabel A. Schmidt, 98, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2020, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, NE.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 15, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Hill with Rev. Jeffrey Kuddes officiating. Private family burial will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Blue Hill. Book signing is 6-8 p.m. Friday with family present at Merten-Butler Mortuary. Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Mabel Antonia was born December 1, 1921, to Rudolph & Anna (Wolfe) Lipovsky at Fairfield, NE. She graduated from Lawrence High School in 1938.

Mabel loved music. In her early years, she played guitar, banjo, and piano. She sang in church, school choirs and sang solos.

On April 17, 1945, she married Edgar Schmidt in Blue Hill, NE by Rev. August Ficken of Trinity Lutheran Church becoming a member on August 11, 1945. She was a homemaker. While raising her family she was active in parochial school activities, was also a Sunday School teacher, member of Adult Bible Class, Choir, and Ladies Aid for several years. In her later years, she loved china painting and playing bridge.

Mabel loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They were precious to her even when they outgrew her lap, they always fit her heart.

Mabel was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Alyce Lipovsky and Helen Squires; brother, James Lipovsky; granddaughter, Brooke Schmidt; in-laws, Ione Lipovsky and Roy Squires, along with Edgar’s brothers, sisters, and spouses.
